annmarie Looking for a suitable location for a Halloween party for approx 100 members, preferably with spooky nature/looking.. ideas welcomed.. not specifically on Halloween night itself.. event will probably take place a week or so before?
Any ideas?

AJR Reculver Castle and Richborough Castle are interesting sites, if you can obtain permission. Additionally, now Lympne Castle deals in private parties, they may allow you to congregate within the ruins of Stutfall Castle, which is on the Lympne Castle Estate.

AJR Come to think of it, Fort Amherst in Chatham has some very spooky tunnels.

Peter As you are down in Kent there should be a few places as AJR suggests. Your only big drawback (well several) after finding a location and getting permission. Is insurance cover. With over a hundred people you would never get permission without it.
AJR Peter, strange that since I am involved in the Insurance world, I forgot about something like this.
However, if annmarie is unable to find anyone to provide insurance, then I have made enquiries, and have found one Broker who advises that liability cover for such an event is obtainable, and I can provide the name and telephone number of the company / person who could arrange it if necessary.
Let me know if you require any assistance.

Philip Davis Gordon you are a very sad man!
Slightly more seriously my friend is an art therapist who works with distrurbed adolescents. Castles and sharks are some of the most common repeated images they work with. Castle can be seen as defensive structures which cut you off from the sharks in the bad outside world. Certainly I think one of the early attractions of castles (other than being great climbing frames) is the sense of power that they give. Both the power to lord it over others and the power to protect yourself from others - even ruined castles generally have some very good hiding places!

AJR There's nothing sad about being mad. Come to think of it, if I admit to being mad, then it's a sure sign that I'm not, for mad people think they're normal. Hence, I'm normal (hey, does that mean I'm mad ?!!?).
I'm arguing in circles here. We're all mad, to some degree, only some are madder than others.
Anyhow, what's all this got to do with finding a Halloween site ?
What am I wittering on about - just goes to show I had a good lunch - which consisted of haggis, followed by rump steak (Scottish of course) and chips, etc., all washed down with that good red wine - Ahh !!
duncan I heard if a person asked their selfs if they are sane, they are. {in 'whos' opinion?!?} I'm not sure how admiting to madness plays into if you are or not but if love of castles makes a person mad how about someone building one? no, don't answer that, i may have go hide in a rock pile.
This is what i get for haveing only one scone and a cup of breakfast tea. Pass the aspirins please.
